*** COVID-19 UPDATE 09/2021 ***

According to the CDC's weekly data tracker, the highly contagious Delta variant continues to be the predominate strain, being responsible for 99% of current cases. After seeing a brief decline in Covid-19 cases, the United States is once again seeing a surge in both cases (Figure 1) and new hospitalizations (Figure 2) mainly due to the fast rate at which the Delta variant can spread. Every time the virus replicates there is a minuscule chance that a new mutation will be created. Multiply that tiny chance by the millions of times the virus replicates itself across the world each day and you can understand how new deadly mutant strains are able to arise so frequently. The only way to prevent new mutations is to keep the disease from spreading. Since this is near impossible, we must educate ourselves on the ever-changing mutations as they arise if we want to get ahead of it.

According to this CDC article on the Delta variant, here are a few key differences that make it the worst variant yet:
  • more than 2x more contagious that previous variants
  • some data suggests the Delta variant may cause more severe illnesses than previous variants
  • Vaccinated individuals can still get sick and spread the virus to others

The CDC does still recommend wearing masks, even among vaccinated individuals, including in crowded indoor areas. As new mutations casue even deadlier variants to arise, the fight against Covid-19 is far from over. We at t°Scanir would love to be a part of your solution to keeping your doors open and keeping all of your employees and customers safe!

PANDEMICS BY THE NUMBERS

Dr. Babak Kateb, leading neuroscientist and founding chairman of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics, stated in a recent LA Times Article discussing Covid-19 safety protocols for large gatherings and conventions, "It's very important for us to be cautious but not to be fearful". In order for us to move forward as a society, we must not let the fear of Covid-19 keep us hidden behind closed doors. Instead, we need to put certain safety measure into place in all densely populated areas so that we can confidently and safely start to resume our daily lives as they were before the Covid-19 pandemic began.
